George Li has received an outstanding review from the New York Times for his performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.1 with the Mariinsky Orchestra and Valery Gergiev on 24 February in New York. The newspaper wrote:
“A bracing, fearless account…Mr. Li’s playing combined youthful abandon with utter command.”
The ‘Prokofiev Marathon’ saw all of Prokofiev’s Piano Concertos performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music by Li, Daniil Trifonov, Sergei Babayan, Alexander Toradze and Paul Wittgenstein. Trifonov’s performance of the Third Piano Concerto was also praised by the Times for its “delicacy and sparkling clarity”.
